TREATMENT JOURNEY
TAILORED PROGRAMME FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH ALCOHOL, GAMBLING AND DRUGS
'REHAB' IS A PROCESS, NOT A PLACE
Sporting Chance is well known for it's custom built clinic which was set up 25 years ago to treat athletes or other people connected with the sports industry who have been experiencing significant problems relating to alcohol, other drugs or gambling

Every 5 weeks, our clinic (also referred to as our residential facility) admits 5 people for a set 4 week period. If you are reading this because you are worried about your relationship with alcohol or another drug or gambling - or perhaps your worried about somebody else - this page (and the links through to our contact channels) might be the start of a process of change for you or the person you are looking to help.

A stay in our clinic can be a hugely important part of the recovery process, but it is only part of it.

In reality, recovery starts by the individual needing help making contact our case management team either by calling or emailing us or filling out our web contact form.
If you are worried about your relationship with alcohol or other drugs or gambling, start the process by clicking HERE.
Our Case Management team can talk with you about your current circumstances and take you through a screening assessment. From there, the next step might be a
comprehensive assessment with our specialist team who work with problematic behaviours and addiction.

If you are worried about someone else (if you're a member of the support staff within a football club for example) you can still use our contact channels to get more
information about the service but ultimately, we do need to speak directly with the individual requiring treatment. Click HERE if you are calling about about somebody

YOUR COMPREHENSIVE
ASSESSMENT & CARE PLAN
Not everyone who is experiencing problems with a particular substance or behaviour has an addiction. Our comprehensive assessment is for those individuals who, after an initial screening, are flagged as having a more developed problem with a substance or behaviour but this doesn't mean everyone who we recommend this assessment is an addict.

Comprehensive assessments can be conducted online or over the phone or in person (this depends on your location and your funding body).

As part of the assessment, you will discuss the following with a member of our team:

- Family history of problematic use / addiction
- Significant events in your life
- What has happened that led you to make contact with us
- Your history of use with the substance or behaviour that is causing you problems
- Your current environment
- Your belief systems
Following your assessment we will work with you to put a care plan in place for you. It might be that your care plan will recommend a 4 week stay at our residential facility and will include things for you to prepare before your stay which may involve detox or additional work with a therapist.

Click HERE to chat with us about your situation and our case management team can decide if a comprehensive assessment is the next right step for you.

YOUR CLINIC STAY
When you are ready for the clinic phase of your treatment plan, we will allocate you a space with four other people on a 4 week residential treatment

Living in a shared house in the grounds of an exclusive health resort, you'll commit to a compulsory programme which incorporates an established, professionally recognised recovery model.
You'll have group therapy sessions with the your fellow residents and one to one sessions with our therapists. You'll have education sessions on addiction and time on your own in which you'll be asked to reflect and journal. You'll also attend recovery meetings locally as a group.

It's not all work and it's not all therapy. We are based in the grounds of a health resort and have access to high quality facilities including a gym, pool, spa and a tennis and padel court. We also have our own chef who will cook for you throughout your stay as well as hosting cookery classes.

As we accept only a small number of people at any one time for residential treatment, we are able to get a better understanding of your needs than larger facilities.

You can call our clinic team on 07776 658283 between 9am and 5pm on weekdays to find out more about the clinic and how things work on a residential stay (please call our case management team via the links at the top of this page for more immediate support)

YOUR AFTERCARE
Individuals who are able to achieve long term recovery (abstinence from the behaviour or substance that was causing them problems) put into practice what they have learned during their 4 week stay at the our clinic.

In our experience those individuals:

- Complete their full allocation of aftercare therapy with a therapist
- Attend addiction meetings on a regular basis (Sporting Chance has it's own weekly online meetings for anyone who has ever attended the clinic)
- Commit to 'service' at these meetings - giving back to others by volunteering to help run meetings and eventually 'sponsor' new members (a concept similar to mentoring).
- Keep in contact with Sporting Chance staff
- Return to the clinic to share their experience of recovery with those undertaking their 4 week stay.

You can call our clinic team on 07776 658283 between 9am and 5pm on weekdays to find out more about the clinic and how things work on a residential stay.

COSTS & FUNDING
Funding for our addiction support service varies depending on your eligibility (whether you are entitled to financial support from a particular league, governing body or player / athlete union (such as the Professional Footballers' Association) and also the kind of support you will need (as per your care plan).

We also support some individuals who are connected to the sports industry who are prepared to fund themselves. Eligibility is assessed on a case by case basis.

Even if you are eligible for funding through a sporting body, you are still able to fund your treatment privately if you wish.
Please click HERE to talk to us about about funding options for residential stays.
